Real Madrid’s Week Just Got Worse: Held to a Draw by Real Betis.
Real Madrid’s La Liga Title is at stake
Real Madrid’s title hopes took another hit as they were held to a scoreless draw by Real Betis on Sunday. The match marked the end of a challenging week for the team, who lost the first leg of their Copa del Rey semifinal against Barcelona by a score of 1-0 at home on Thursday. The draw against Real Betis did little to improve their chances of catching up with Barcelona in the La Liga title chase, as the Catalan team has now extended their lead to nine points.
Rea l Madrid had several opportunities to score in the match against Real Betis, but failed to capitalize on them. One of these opportunities was a free kick in the eleventh minute that Karim Benzema attempted to take, but VAR disallowed it due to a foul by Antonio Rudiger. Vinicius Junior also missed a fantastic opportunity, while Federico Valverde nearly caught Claudio Bravo off guard.
Real Betis, on the other hand, produced several excellent chances to start the second half, forcing Thibaut Courtois to make key saves to deny Aitor Ruibal and Borja Iglesias. Despite both teams’ continued efforts to win, the game ended without a goal.
The draw doesn’t really benefit either team. Prior to El Clasico on March 19, Barcelona leads with 62 points, nine more than Real, who is in second place but has already had two straight draws. With 41 points, Betis sits in fifth position and three points outside of the Champions League spots.
Conclusion:
Real Madrid’s dismal week just got even worse with this draw, which does little to improve their chances of winning the La Liga title. They will need to regroup quickly if they want to have any chance of catching up to Barcelona, who seem to be cruising towards the title.
